Static Motor Testing

About Static Motor Testing:

A static motor analyser is used after the motor or generator is taken offline then disconnected from its power supply and motor control centre (MCC).

Baker AWA-IV static motor analysers are the go-to instruments for static motor testing; covering repair, reliability and maintenance applications.  Perfect for professionals who need to understand the electrical condition of motors their organisations depend upon.

Weak motor insulation often degrades to the point of causing premature and unexpected motor failure, which in turn can result in costly unplanned downtime of production machinery. The Baker AWA-IV is a fully automated motor analyser that performs repeatable, user-programmable tests to thoroughly assess the condition of a motor’s insulation and circuit. It is also used to assure quality of motor rebuilds or new production motors before they are placed into service.

If you want your static motor testing to be as streamlined as possible the Megger Baker AWA-IV Series is a great choice with their intuitive, touch-screen user interface and accurate, repeatable results regardless of the operator’s skill level.

Static motor testing detects problems that low-voltage testers cannot find by performing a comprehensive set of both high and low-voltage tests. The Megger Baker AWA-IV Series delivers your results in simple, easy-to-understand graphs.  The static motor testing reports give motor maintenance professionals the information they need to minimise costs and unplanned downtime.

Typical static motor testing results include:

  • Tests and sequences that are performed
  • Target test voltage
  • Pass/fail criteria
  • Motor nameplate information

This programmed repeatability for static motor testing ensures the same static motor tests are conducted in the same order on a specific motor, weeks, months or even years after the tests were initially programmed and performed, regardless of who uses the analyser on subsequent tests. An operator merely needs to select the motor from the analyser’s database, make the appropriate connections, then press the test button to begin static motor testing. Any variation in results would be accurate and not prone to operator error or variations in how each of the tests were previously performed.

When tests are completed, the analyser automatically indicates which tests have passed or failed. Graphical information and analysis for each motor is stored and can be reviewed on the analyser’s screen to identify trends that may indicate potential problems. Analysis does not need to occur in the field: data can also be saved to a server or PC database for later retrieval on a desktop or laptop computer.

Baker AWA-IV Series analysers can perform the following static motor tests:

  • Winding resistance
  • Insulation resistance
  • Dielectric analysis (DA)
  • Polarization index (PI)
  • DC step-voltage
  • DC continuous ramped
  • DC hipot
  • Surge
